Default Build opinion

[Nailgun;ACMBGz7dp7SkDXjcxWJHjTJsD]

This is a concept I came up with, and since I don't have a Ranger, cannot test it. Obviously PvE, with (1+3) rune set on headpeice in marksmanship and (+1) in expertise, and a Sundering or Vampric hornbow of whatever.

Basically, in concept, use Drunken Master + Serpent's Quickness reduces Needling/Sundering/Penetrating's recharge to 3, allowing them to be chained, as well as maintain Marksman's Wager. Favorable Wind makes your arrows fast as to combat any problems due to moving enemies.

Only real counters to this build is if you are <50% health, it's lack of self heal, or are attacking a blocking enemy. In concept, that is.

Anyone care to test this and let me know the results?

EDIT: Also made a crazy Assassin primary version, [Railgun;AnMS2ihjLtIq/cXic4a0KdK5YA]

if you're looking for a spike build, why not try glass arrows?

1) Theres enough of those builds already and
2) you can chain without rest, so long as your enemy is not blocking.

Your 'Crazy Assassin' build is similar to the 'Critical Barrage'....but Crit Barrage is more effective :P

As for Marksman's Wager...I don't like using that for anything...A.Net needs to do something about this skill. It could be a very nice elite to have if the consequences of missing weren't so high.

With a one second simulated attack speed and Favorable winds, I hope it limits the consequences. The only enemies I've really had a problem with in PvE as far as blocking are rangers, and as long as you target them last, your other members should take care of them easily. Monsters don't strafe either, so that's not a problem :P

I'm sure you can replace one of the sundering attacks for a ranger healing skill. Maybe Troll Unguent? This build seems more intent on spiking heavy damaging arrow attacks, but that's all this is to me.

The Assassin build doesn't look so fun to use. It seems purely concentrated on giving your attacks that one extra hurt. It's a nice concept, but I think the three skills, [Dwarven Stability][Serpent's Quickness][Marksman's Wager] can be put to better use. (Although anyone would do without Markman's.)

It's actually based on chaining said attacks quickly and endlessly, rather then the strength of them themselves. It's a modified Machine gunning build. Keep in mind that all these skills have an activation time of 1 second, so with three skills recharging all at three seconds, there is little downtime at all.

Marksman's Wager is simply the best skill available to allow this endless chain, though if you can find something better, do tell

Rangers themselves don't have enough good self-heals to warrant my use. Taking out an attack skill would ruin the chain. I prefer to relay on healing from a teammate instead. I suppose if you wanted to, take out Ebon Battle Standard of Honor for a heal.

[Expert Focus][Quick shot][Frenzy] and ["I Am The Strongest!"] for slots 2-5, I'd make slot 1 [Distracting Shot] with a rez instead of favorable winds for slot 8.

Your build lacks an IAS. Frenzy fits in nicely.

Expert Focus for energy management. With at least 14 expertise, your attacks are 4e, and the Prep makes then 2.

Quick Shot to keep up with the DPS.

"IATS!" for +damage.

Should work well.

Edit: Perhaps [Drunken Master] for your IAS?

[Asuran Scan] could replace "IATS!", but I haven't tested it.

Sounds nice, but you'd still nead a skill to alternate Quick shot with. I suppose energy comes out dead even in spamming if you use a zealous bowstring.

There is no IAS in this build because you are using simulated IAS. Using additional IAS would leave downtime. Quickshot seems nice, but theres no real damage added except for Experts Focus and "IAtS".

Even so, I hate frenzy, and without a cancel stance, you could run into problems. I'd rather slap on Flail, since you have great attack speed. Even without strength, you'll still maintain it a lot.

Asuran scan just casts too long with too short a duration for me, and I don't want an IAS that's going to require me to drink before using.

Ah, forgot about the 1sec updates.

Even so, you don't need another attack with Quick shot. SA and PA have 3 sec recharges, so you're just spamming 345345345345 on and on and on.

You shouldn't need a cancel stance since you not in the frontline. right?

Well, since your build doesn't need an IAS, perhaps ["finish him!"]?

Deep Wound is ftw

I suppose so. EBSoH and Favorable winds are the only real substitutable skills in the build.

I see what your saying now as far as build set up. Very doable, but you'll still run into energy problems after a while.

SA and PA both got a damage update too, so they pack quite a punch.

Off the top of my head i came up with this for a "pew pew pew" build.

[marksman's wager][needling shot][penetrating attack][sundering attack][i am the strongest][ebon battle standard of honor][favorable winds][troll unguent]

FW and EBToH could be swapped out for [Finish Him] and [You Move Like a Dwarf] or a blocking skill. And since this build is mainly a single target focused build, YMLaD could be really handy in limiting your targets movement.

I really wish that Anet had reverted the energy costs for Penetrating and Sundering attack aswell as even with 14 expertise its an energy hungry build to use.

[Prepared shot] gives all the energy you will ever need as well as some bonus damage, and frees your preparation up for extra damage from [expert focus] or [read the wind]. There is no need to use [marksman's wager] unless you do not own nightfall IMO.
